The Eden Project

The internationally renowned Eden Project is a mere 4 miles away, and can be easily reached by car within a matter of minutes, or, for the more adventurous, why not walk or cycle there along "Cornwalls Clay Trails" via the beautiful Luxulyan Valley?

Situated in an old China Clay pit, the enormous "Biomes" themselves are a wondrous sight, and the collections of plants from every corner of the world enable the visitor to experience life in the rain forests and the Mediterranean in the space of a few hours.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

The Lost Gardens of Heligan at Pentewan near the picturesque fishing port of Mevagissey are approximately 10 miles from the hotel and can be reached easily by car in about 20 minutes. We would recommend that you allow at least half a day for your visit.

Rediscovered in 1990 after slumbering for over 70 years, Heligan has been restored to its former glory and is now one of Cornwall's best gardens

St Austell

This ancient market town is only 10 minutes drive from The Royal Inn. St Austell itself is a meeting point of old and new Cornwall, of ancient, narrow streets and smart pedestrian precincts with fine shops.

Newquay

The fashionable resort of Newquay, with its fantastic beaches and bustling nightlife, can be reached by taking the picturesque journey along the Newquay branch line from Par station situated just opposite The Royal Inn.

From the Aquarium and zoo to exciting adventure playgrounds, Newquay boasts a world of family attractions away from its beaches. There is plenty of other family fun when you've had enough of sandcastles and ice cream.

Come face to face with reef sharks in the underwater tunnel at the Blue Reef Aquarium Make a splash in the tropics of The Oasis Fun Pool or Waterworld at Trenance Leisure Park.

Truro

Truro is Cornwall's only city, but boasts and intriguing mixture of small curiosity shops, large department stores, and, of course, its famous cathedral.

The Royal Cornwall Museum is the oldest and premier museum in Cornwall for exhibitions detailing Cornish history and culture, with a wide range of collections such as archaeology, art and geology.

Truro is also noted for its parks and open spaces, including Victoria Gardens, Boscawen Park and Daubuz Moors.

Fowey

The increasingly fashionable harbour town of Fowey renowned for its links to Daphne De Maurier is only 10 minutes drive from The Royal Inn. Here you can relax down by the harbour and watch the shipping of all sorts and sizes as it makes its way up and down the estuary.

The picturesque village of Polruan can be reached by passenger ferry and, during the summer season, there is a ferry service to the fishing village of Mevagissey, or why not take your car on the Bodinnick Ferry and follow the coastal road to Looe or visit the village or Polperro?

Charlestown

Tall ships ancient harbour built by Sir Charles Rashleigh between 1791 and 1801; now more recently known for its TV and film location for credits such as ‘Rebecca’ and ‘The Eagle has landed’. The harbour is an amazing feat of engineering with its own water supply taken from high up in the hills above St Blazey.

The aqueduct at Luxulyan is a Trust attraction in its own right (designated a World Heritage site in 2006).

Also worth a visit is the Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre. Located in one of the old China Clay buildings, the centre contains a number of exhibits relating to Charlestown's maratime past along with more general shipwreck salvage from Cornwall's coast.

Polkerris

If you fancy a spot of fishing then the tiny hamlet of Polkerris is the place go. Situated between Par and Fowey it has a wonderful beach and a pub right on the waters edge. Very narrow approach by car, but worth the effort.

Polkerris can also be reached via the South West Coastal Path from Par Sands; a lovely walk with breathtaking scenery.
